If black-eyed peas just aren't calling your name, let's get you a serving of these things instead.

It's just about time to ring in the New Year. Not surprisingly, I saw plenty of black-eyed peas around the grocery store yesterday. These are considered a lucky food to eat as you ring in the new year. To be honest, every time I see these peas, I think of my grandmother who will most likely be eating them with dinner tonight.

The thing is, black-eyed peas aren't the only lucky foods you an eat on New Years Eve.

In fact, there are a few ways you can consume some good fortune. The Today show looked at these items and even gave us some delicious recipes to prepare them. Keep reading to find out why these foods are considered lucky.

1. Pork - Pork is considered rich and comes with some fattiness, thus it is a symbol of wealth and prosperity. Grab a loin or spring for ribs, sausage, ham or bacon. Bacon does make everything better right?

2. Lentils - Once again, lentils are a symbol of wealth and prosperity. The Today show says that Italians eat lentils because they are reminiscent of Roman coins. They also tend to serve them alongside pork. I can't imagine why.

3. Soba Noodles - The Japanese believe that noodles signify a long life, but it depends on how you eat them. In order to truly reap the longevity benefits, you have to slurp them in one piece. You're not allowed to break or chew them.

4. Greens - What color is cash? Green. So, of course, eating greens on New Years means that money is coming your way. Why not really go for this wealth and prosperity thing and pair them with black-eyed and ham?

5. Black-Eyed Peas - Americans believe these are lucky because of hard times that fell upon many farmers in the 1800s. According to the Today show, food was scarce and farmers were forced to eat what they fed their livestock with, which were black-eyed peas known as "cowpeas." I feel like eating these on New Years will make you resourceful too.
