If you're a smoker and you plan on partying in Baton Rouge in the future, your favorite watering hole may not be the same.  Yesterday, Louisiana's 2nd largest city became the 13th city in the state to pass a law banning smoking in all bars and casinos.  The East Baton Rouge Parish Metro council voted 7-5 in favor of the ordinance at their regularly scheduled meeting Wednesday night.  The law does not include some of the other cities in the parish like Zachary, Baker and Central.

Health advocates are ecstatic. Coletta Barrett of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical center said in a statement, “I applaud the council for putting health first and making Baton Rouge safer for all to live, work and play."

The ordinance will not go into effect until June of next year to give bar owners time to build outdoor areas for their smoking customers, if they so desire.

New Orleans banned smoking years ago, so that leaves Shreveport/Bossier City as the largest metropolitan area in the state that still allows smoking in its bars and casinos. Could the SBC be next?
