Schools in Louisiana have a bad reputation.  Nationally, we rank 49th in education (only New Mexico is below us on the list) - so winning awards for outstanding educational achievements seems a little far-fetched right now.  Only, it's not.

The U.S. Department of Education picks 349 schools each year that are performing above and beyond expectations, or who have made great strides in closing achievement gaps, and names them a Blue Ribbon School.  These schools represent the cream of the educational crop - and Louisiana has 6 schools on the list for 2018, including one in Caddo Parish!

Named to the list for high-performance were: Lusher Charter School in Orleans Parish, T.S. Cooley Elementary Magnet School in Calcasieu Parish, and our very own Caddo Magnet High School in Caddo Parish.

Named to the list for closing achievement gaps were: Lewis Vincent Elementary School in Livingston Parish, Montegut Elementary School in Terrebonne Parish and Vacherie Elementary School in St. James Parish.

According to U.S. News and World Report, the schools will be honored at a Nov. 7-8 awards ceremony in Washington.
