Van Halen guitar great Eddie Van Halen recently had a bit of a health scare when he underwent emergency surgery due to a serious flare-up of diverticulitis, a condition impacting the intestine causing it to become infected or inflamed, causing immense pain.

Van Halen underwent surgery to have his infected intestine removed which resulted in a three week hospital stay after some of his stitches popped post surgery.

The harrowing news left many Van Halen fans concerned for Van Halen and his health, but the guitarist recently checked in to let fans know he’s doing okay and appreciates the support. Van Halen posted the following message on his Facebook page:

Thank you for all of your cool comments! Hanging out, taking it easy and following the doctor’s orders.

Doctor’s orders include resting and recuperating for up to six months so fans will need to tap into their favorite Van Halen playlists to get their fix as the band will be sidelined for the foreseeable future.

The surgery resulted in Van Halen having to postpone their upcoming dates in Japan but luckily it appears that Eddie is on the road to recovery.
