Five Finger Death Punch’s Jason Hook Helps Shine a Spotlight on Session Stars in ‘Hired Gun’ Film
There are a number of musicians who've enjoyed fulfilling careers making rock stars sound good on stage and in the studio even though you may not know their names, and it's those somewhat anonymous rockers that get the spotlight in the upcoming film, 'Hired Gun.'
Five Finger Death Punch's Jason Hook was one of those guys, playing with everyone from BulletBoys and Vince Neil to Alice Cooper and even pop star Mandy Moore before landing a more permanent gig with FFDP. Hook is one of the featured artists in the Fran Strine-helmed documentary, recalling his experiences playing with a wide array of artists.
Hook says, "I used to watch 'Behind The Music,' and the beauty and appeal of that show was you could peel back a layer and find out what really happens behind the scenes. That's the essence of a great documentary ... it's about seeing something for the first time, or hearing stories for the first time that you weren't supposed to hear when it was happening, and that is the starting point for 'Hired Gun.'"
Hook is joined in the film by Ozzy Osbourne and Quiet Riot guitarist Rudy Sarzo, KISS, Badlands and Alice Cooper drummer Eric Singer, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson and David Lee Roth guitarist John 5, Bon Jovi and Daughtry guitarist Phil X, John Mellencamp, John Fogerty and Chickenfoot drummer Kenny Aronoff, David Lee Roth and Whitesnake guitarist Steve Vai and Billy Joel's longtime drummer Liberty DeVitto among others.
There is currently an Indiegogo campaign set up to help offset the costs of the film and you can donate and receive a number of incentives from the likes of Hook, Aronoff, Schon, Sarzo, DeVitto and more. The goal is to raise $35,000 and the campaign, which is just underway, will run until Dec. 19.
