Former US Attorney General Janet Reno Dead at 78

Janet Reno, the first female US Attorney General, has died at the age of 78. According to the Associated Press, Reno died early Monday from complications of Parkinson’s disease. Her goddaughter Gabrielle D’Alemberte  told the AP Reno spent her final days at home in Miami surrounded by family and friends.

Reno spent nearly eight years as attorney general under President Bill Clinton, the longest stint in a century. During her tenure, she was the center piece of several controversial moments including the stand off in Waco Texas, the seizure of Elian Gonzalez, and several investigations into Clinton corruption.
