Natural resources are big business in the United States, actually, in the world. Gas, water, minerals, and other committees cause major conflicts and often even lead to war. But our most precious commodity is actually something that doesn't get traded in markets, or create world conflicts.

The most precious commodity we have is our children.

Which is why for most of our society, schools matter. They matter because they deal with what we recognize as our most precious commodity, our kids. This is why people make a lot of their life decisions around schools and school systems.

Knowing this, a website named Niche has taken a ton of time to rank all of the high schools across the state of Louisiana. By the looks of it, they put a lot of time and effort into this research. But before we get into the results, here's how Niche describes themselves:

"Niche is a website that helps you discover the schools and neighborhoods that are right for you. We rigorously analyze dozens of public data sets and millions of reviews to produce comprehensive rankings, report cards, and profiles for every K-12 school, college, and neighborhood in the U.S."

So how did these guys put together their 2018 Best Public High Schools in Louisiana list? Well, they have an explanation of that too:

"The 2018 Best Public High Schools ranking is based on rigorous analysis of academic and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education along with test scores, college data, and ratings collected from millions of Niche users."

For each high school, they have deep information. Like ACT scores, student college choices, proficiency in reading and math, and Advanced Placement enrollments. For each school we list, you can click on the school's name and see their full report card.

So, knowing how much they put into this, I'm sure you're excited to see what local schools from the Shreveport and Bossier area make it to the top of the list. So lets get into it:

Parkway ranked as the #70 High School in the state, which makes it the 7th highest ranked school in the Shreveport/Bossier area. Niche gave them a B+ grade, and gave them high ranks for "Clubs & Activities" and their lowest score was in "College Prep"

Captain Shreve ranked as the #62 High School in the state, which makes it the 6th highest ranked school in the Shreveport/Bossier area. Like Parkway, Niche gave Shreve a B+. Their highest grade was in "Clubs & Activities" and they got their lowest scores in "Academics" and "College Prep".

Benton ranked as the #46 High School in the state, which makes it the 5th highest ranked school in the Shreveport/Bossier area. Like Parkway and Capt Shreve, Niche gave Benton a B+. Benton's highest grade came in "Health & Safety" and their lowest grades were in "College Prep" and "Diversity".

North DeSoto ranked as the #36 High School in the state, which makes it the 4th highest ranked school in the Shreveport/Bossier area. They're the first school on our list to get an A-, and the first to get an A+ in a grade. Their highest grade, the A+, came in "Health & Safety". Their lowest grade was in "College Prep".

Airline ranked as the #34 High School in the state, which makes it the 3rd highest ranked school in the Shreveport/Bossier area. Airline also received an A- overall grade, and saw their highest grading in "Diversity". Their lowest grade was in "Health & Safety".

Byrd ranked as the #13 High School in the state, which makes it the 2nd highest ranked school in the Shreveport/Bossier area. Byrd is the only school on the local list to get an A grade overall. Their highest grade was the second A+ on the list, and came in "Clubs & Activities". Their lowest grades, which weren't low at all with B+ grades, were "Academics", "Teachers", and "College Prep".

Caddo Magnet ranked as the #7 High School in the state, which makes it the highest ranked school in the Shreveport/Bossier area. Interestingly, Caddo Magnet didn't receive and A+ grades, but none of their scores dropped below A-. "Academics", "Teachers", "Clubs & Activities", and "College Prep" all had A scores, and "Diversity" and "Health & Science" both had A- scores.

Also remember, this is a listing of PUBLIC schools. Niche actually has a list of Private schools as well, so if you were looking for a certain school you know should be here, and you don't find it listed, it's likely on that list.
