Inmates Save Guards Life, and Get Their Sentence Cut By Sheriff
High temperatures and 100% humidity are the conditions that prisoners were cleaning and weeding a cemetery in. The unidentified guard in charge of security for the prison passed out face-down. That's when all six prisoners jumped into action. The prisoners turned the guard over and took his gun belt off, they removed his gun proof vest and started CPR. One inmate took the guards phone and called 911. Inmate Greg Williams said “When he started breathing, it was just real heavy and real fast" The Prisoners kept the guard alive until paramedics arrived.
The inmates were treated to a pizza party and dessert made by the guards family. That's not the only thank you that the inmates received. Polk County Sheriff Johnny Moates plans to take one fourth of their sentences off. “Anytime we have a trustee or inmate crew, that goes beyond normal duties, we cut them some extra time off” said Sheriff Johnny Moates
“We all know that Monday could have ended differently for our officer,” said Sheriff Johnny Moats.
