After spending the last few years on other projects, Jack White Is back in the studio working on the follow-up to 2014's Lazaretto. His label, Third Man Records, confirmed the news.

Earlier today, Third Man posted a pair of tweets showing him and various musicians, saying that they were working in studios in New York and Los Angeles. The New York photo was taken on July 27 and the L.A. one was shot on July 30.

Earlier this year, we learned that White was writing new material. In order to put himself in the right frame of mind to create, he rented a two-bedroom apartment in Nashville, filling it with a table, a cot and a bunch of photos on the wall. He recorded his demos onto a machine that he'd had since he was 14, and bought with money that he had earned mowing lawns.

“I’m going to try to write songs where I can’t be heard by the next-door neighbor,” he said. “And I want to write like Michael Jackson would write — instead of writing parts on the instruments or humming melodies, you think of them. To do everything in my head and to do it in silence and use only one room.”

Since Lazaretto, White has been engaged working on the music for American Epic, a PBS documentary series about the birth of the American recording industry and featured contributions from such diverse artists as Elton John, Nas, Willie Nelson, Beck, Alabama Shakes and Merle Haggard. He also released a song called "Battle Cry," a mostly instrumental piece as part of a promotional campaign for Warstic, a baseball bat manufacturer of which he is a part-owner.
