Kelly Keagy, the voice of Night Ranger's "Sister Christian," is taking a temporary leave of absence through May while he recovers from successful surgery to address "a heart abnormality," according to a press release.

"At the recommendation of my doctors, I decided to undergo a procedure that will allow me to come back even stronger," Keagy said. "I've asked the guys in the band to go ahead with the tour, and I'm looking forward to rejoining them on the road as soon as I can. I'm grateful for the support and prayers of my family, my bandmates and our fans, which have meant everything to me as I've gone through this process."

Keagy's usual spot behind the drums will be filled by Deen Castronovo of Journey and Bad English, and Fred Coury of Cinderalla, over the next six weeks of Night Ranger's 35th anniversary world tour. These dates are in support of Don't Let Up, the band's 11th studio album.

"Kelly Keagy was born with and has dealt with a heart abnormality his entire life," Night Ranger said in an official statement. "At the recommendation of his doctors, he underwent a preventative heart procedure, which was successful and he is now home recuperating. He looks forward to rockin' again for the fans very soon and truly appreciates the outpouring of love, support and healing well wishes. We thank everyone for respecting his privacy as he continues healing and we will not be making any further comments at this time."

"Sister Christian" was part of Night Ranger's breakthrough sophomore release, 1983's Midnight Madness. The band is rounded out by Jack Blades, Brad Gillis, Keri Kelli and Eric Levy.
