We got some sad news over the weekend. Local Legend and icon Stan 'The Record Man' Lewis has passed away at the age of 91. Lewis became a staple of the Shreveport music scene when he opened up Stan's Music Shop in 1948. Lewis then expanded his enterprises and founded two record labels.

Stan's family even inspired one of the biggest songs of the late 50s, 'Susie Q.'.Dale Hawkins wrote the song about Stan's daughter Susan (a fun bit of trivia for you). Famously, one of Stan's biggest customers in his early years was this up and coming performer from the Louisiana Hayride named Elvis Presley.

Locally, regionally and nationally, Stan 'The Record Man' had a huge impact on the early rock and roll explosion. From selling hard to find independent records to booking shows to producing and recording bands, Stan did it all. Shreveport's rich musical history probably wouldn't be what it is without Stan and his work. He was inducted in the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame in 2009.

If you are unfamiliar with Stan's work and his impact on the music business, you can read about his importance in the book "Record Makers and Breakers: Voices of the Independent Rock 'n' Roll Pioneers".
