Torrential rain in Louisiana has caused some coffins to emerge from their graves and float away. In the town of Belle Rose, there have been reports that nearly a dozen coffins have become boats for the dead due to floor waters that infiltrated parts of the state last week.

Family members of the departed have since gone to the cemetery and used sandbags to keep the caskets from taking a soggy journey. Photos from CNN Wire show people knee deep in flood waters, attempting to guide caskets to higher ground. Others paint a portrait of a cemetery that will be in ruins until waters subside enough for cleaning crews to work.
