The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced a massive ground beef recall yesterday, due to concerns of salmonella contamination.  The tainted meat has already made 57 people in 16 states sick , and authorities are worried that number will rise.

The ground beef comes from Arizona-based producer JBS Tolleson, and was shipped to retailers across the country - including Wal-Mart.  According to NOLA.com, some of the contaminated meat has been sold in Louisiana - so check the freezer.  The beef was packaged between July 26, 2018 to Sept. 7, 2018, and displays "EST. 267" inside the USDA mark of inspection.  If you have any of this meat, throw it out or take it back to the store for a refund.

If you start to experience diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within 12 to 72 hours after eating questionable ground beef- check with your doctor or healthcare provider right away.  Most people get over the illness caused by ingesting salmonella within 7 days, but the very young and very old stand a significant chance of developing more serious (and sometimes fatal) infection.
