History is made in New Orleans. Voters have elected a female mayor.
City Council woman LaToya Cantrell is the easy winner over former judge Desiree Charbonnet.

Charbonnet could not recover from political action committee attacks that painted her as a candidate who would cater to special interests.

The turnout in Orleans Parish for the Mayoral election was 32.9%. Cantrell got 60% of the vote.

Cantrell told her supporters:
"Almost 300 years, my friends, and New Orleans, we're still making history.

In other election news, John Schroder is elected State Treasurer with 56% of the vote. The turnout statewide is pegged at 12.5%.

In Caddo Parish,  retired firefighter Louis Johnson wins a seat on the Commission with 66% of the vote. The turnout in that race was 12.7%.
