Bob Costas’ and Jason Whitlock’s Racist Gun Control Rants

Both Bob Costas and Jason Whitlock have been given a lot of credit over the years in how they approach sports, calling it like they see it, which usually is exactly how it is. However, both men have crossed the line of insensitivity and ignorance.
On Sunday, Bob Costas decided to go on a soapbox during the Halftime of the Sunday Night Football game. While this was broadcast on NBC, no on should be surprised that Leftist propaganda was spouted, but what was injected into a non-political event was tasteless and inappropriate on all levels.

If you missed the rant from Costas, which pararphased and quoted Jason Whitlock:

Well, you knew it was coming. In the aftermath of the nearly unfathomable events in Kansas City, that most mindless of sports clichés was heard yet again: Something like this really puts it all in perspective. Well, if so, that sort of perspective has a very short shelf-life since we will inevitably hear about the perspective we have supposedly again regained the next time ugly reality intrudes upon our games. Please, those who need tragedies to continually recalibrate their sense of proportion about sports would seem to have little hope of ever truly achieving perspective. You want some actual perspective on this? Well, a bit of it comes from the Kansas City-based writer Jason Whitlock with whom I do not always agree, but who today said it so well that we may as well just quote or paraphrase from the end of his article.

"Our current gun culture,"Whitlock wrote, "ensures that more and more domestic disputes will end in the ultimate tragedy and that more convenience-store confrontations over loud music coming from a car will leave more teenage boys bloodied and dead."

"Handguns do not enhance our safety. They exacerbate our flaws, tempt us to escalate arguments, and bait us into embracing confrontation rather than avoiding it. In the coming days, Jovan Belcher’s actions, and their possible connection to football will be analyzed. Who knows?"

"But here," wrote Jason Whitlock," is what I believe. If Jovan Belcher didn’t possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today."

What was proven here

1. Bob Costas and Jason Whitlock have never possessed, nor do they have a respect for weapons.
2. It was also proven that both men don't think that Black men can handle themselves around weapons.

The call from both men to scrutinize the 2nd Amendment is clear evidence that they believe, as most Leftists do, "outlaw guns and only outlaws will have guns," which is a misnomer, as many gun-owners know. People who have no respect for weapons are the problem.

Let's also not forget Jovan Belcher was also mentally disturbed, had a drinking problem and there are suggestions coming out that he was having issues with brain trauma from Football itself. All things that Costas and Whitlock seem to have suspiciously missed in their demonizing of the 2nd Amendment.  You don't hear either man coming out and calling Football injuries as the culprit.

On the issue of race, Jason Whitlock is Black, his writings show a very low regard for Black men and inner city youth.  Anyone who says or writes:

makes the assumption that only thuggery is the reason someone would use a gun, which is completely irresponsible and, dare I say, racist on the part of both men. The assumption that is made here is that White suburban kids who use weapons are ok and the Black youths are bad.

I think we all know of a lot of responsible Black youths who graduate school, play football or basketball and go on to success. No one questions if they, like the assumed "white kids" have gone hunting, or if their family belongs to the NRA. Then again, Bob Costas and Jason Whitlock didn't research those possibilites, which they should have. Javon Belcher came from West Babylon, NY, was an excellent student in High School and College and went to University of Maine. Not the makings of some inner city thug.

Bob Costas and Jason Whitlock need to look in a mirror and truly determine if their message of abridgement of the 2nd Amendment is what we heard. I can't speak for you, but all I heard was the noise of ignorance and a lack of respect for their readers and viewers. We watched the game to watch the game, not Bob Costas' person take on the 2nd Amendment.
