After being held in a Czech prison for more than a month, Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe was released on Thursday (Aug.2) and his first post-prison interview was captured by the Czech media outlet TN.cz. The reporter and his camera crew caught up with Blythe while he was waiting at the airport to fly home to the United States.

In the close to seven minute interview, Blythe tells the reporter that he’s relieved to be out of jail and that it “wasn’t bad but it wasn’t exactly fun.” He continued, “I’m relieved to be out of jail but if it’s necessary for me to return to Prague to go to this court thing, I certainly will, I’m no flight risk.”

Regarding the specific event that lead to the manslaughter charge, Blythe explained that he didn’t even remember. “I’ve played thousands of concerts,” he said to the camera. “To people not used to this type of music; I know it must seem crazy and violent in its appearance, but that sort of activity is normal at a concert, that type of dancing.” He continued, “That sort of behavior is normal at concerts. It is very tragic that a young man died. I feel very bad that a fan of my band is dead and his family has to go through it, it’s terrible, I feel awful for them but it’s a tragic coincidence.”

Blythe told the reporter that he “certainly did not know anyone was hurt.” He explained, “When I showed up in Prague I was very surprised to be arrested. We had no knowledge whatsoever that someone had been injured much less died.”

He talked about his time in prison as well saying that while it wasn’t exactly fun he was still grateful for what he had instead of what he didn’t have. He said he spent his time writing, exercising and talking to cellmates. “The inmates were very cool to me,” said Blythe. “Nobody was mean to me at all, I had no problems.”

At the end of the interview Blythe reiterated that he’s no flight risk and will return to Prague if necessary, explaining, “I have to clear my name.”
