Recent converts to the Red Hot Chili Peppers probably can't make the connection between the Chili Peppers and early L.A. punks bands like Black Flag, the Leaving Trains, and Red Kross -  but that connection is there.  Anthony Keidis and Flea grew up in that scene, and their new video for "Monarchy of Roses" is a black and white tribute to artist Raymond Pettibon - who made his mark designing album covers, logos and flyers for Black Flag, SST Records and just about anyone else associated with the L.A. punk scene of the late '70s/early '80s.

 

The song, and video, have restored my faith in the Chili Peppers, and their ability to go beyond the mainstream hit formula.  Check it out here:
