The fight against the Confederate Monument in front of the Caddo Parish Courthouse has been going on for several months. Round one in the court fight is over.

KEEL News spoke with Caddo Parish Commission President Doug Dominick about the ruling.

A federal judge has denied the motion made by the United Daughters of the Confederacy to stop the removal of the monument while the legal battle moves through the court system.

In his ruling, US District Court Judge Robert G. James included the following:

"The UDC faces the uphill battle of trying to prove that the words of 1903 minutes are sufficient to establish its ownership of that plot as a matter of law. Based on the evidence presented, the Court concludes that UDC has failed to meet that burden, or to show that it is entitled to relief otherwise”

Caddo Parish Commissioner Steven Jackson also spoke to KEEL News about this ruling.

KEEL News reached out to the United Daughters of the Confederacy and they do not have a comment on this latest ruling.
