What Does a Teal Pumpkin Mean?
This weekend, families across the Ark-La-Tex will descend upon neighborhoods in a mad search for candy. Unfortunately for some kids, these various treats represent a wheel of misfortune due to their allergies. Ingredients like peanuts, dairy, and gluten can be an issue for kids who want to indulge in the nights bountiful harvest. Some little ghouls and goblins simply can't have a large percentage of the candy given out every year. That's where the Teal Pumpkin Project comes in.
The Teal Pumpkin Project is a genius idea started by non-profit group Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE). If you have a child with a food allergy or sensitivity, you'll want to be on the lookout for a teal-colored pumpkin or jack-o-lantern proudly displayed on the front porch of a house on your trick-r-treat travels. Houses that display this rather unusual Halloween decoration are prepared to hook up your costumed kiddo with some very thoughtful non-food treats.
If you'd like to put a teal pumpkin out on your porch and chip in with an initiative that helps include all kids in the spooky fun, check out the ideas on FARE's website here!
