Veteran grunge rockers Soundgarden have been busy on the festival circuit since they re-formed in 2010 after more than a decade on hiatus, and now they can add another fest to their schedule. The band will headline the opening night of the three-day Hard Rock Calling event in London in July.

Chris Cornell’s band takes the stage on Friday night, July 13 in Hyde Park. Soundgarden’s summer 2012 itinerary to this point is composed almost entirely of European music fest shows, with dates also scheduled at the Sweden Rock Festival, the Download Festival, the Sonisphere Festival and the Pinkpop Festival.

The other two headliners for Hard Rock Calling are Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, who take the stage on July 14, and Paul Simon, who celebrates the 25th anniversary of ‘Graceland’ with a show on July 15 that also features reggae legend Jimmy Cliff.

No additional acts have been announced for the event yet, but plenty of indie rock acts will probably make the final lineup. Past years have featured performances from the Kaiser Chiefs, the Kills, Fleet Foxes, Ben Harper, the Hives, Passion Pit and Silversun Pickups.

Hard Rock Calling tickets are on sale at the festival’s 2012 website.
