SPD Chief Talks Second Quarter Crime Stats [VIDEO]

Shreveport Police Chief Alan Crump talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the city's crime statistics for the second quarter of 2018.

Crump told KEEL listeners that the increase in violent crime is a public perception, and the latest numbers bear out the claim that Mayor Ollie Tyler's crime fighting plan is working.

The Chief cited stats as reported in the Shreveport Times:

Chief Alan Crump said violent crime was down in nearly every category except homicides. Rapes, armed robberies and business robberies were all down.

Even homicides, while up in the second quarter, were down through the first six months of the year, according to department statistics.

Overall, the violent crime index — a blended measure of all violent crimes — fell 15 percent in the January-June period, according to department statistics.

Most categories of property crime also declined, including residential burglaries and purse snatchings. The property crime index fell 8 percent in the first half of the year.
