Comedy duo Tenacious D beat out Mastodon, Anthrax, Motorhead and Slipknot to win the Best Metal Performance Grammy.

The nominees for the 57th annual Grammy Awards were announced Friday, with Anthrax, Mastodon, Motorhead, Slipknot and Tenacious D earning metal nods.

Okay.  So the headline is a little misleading.  Yes, Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Jack Black (Tenacious D), and actor Val Kilmer have a new band called Sweetriver and the Huckleberry Dogs.  And they do have some new music.  But this 'Supergroup' isn't an offical band - it was something the three put together for the web series "Ghost Ghirls"...

With enough time and practice, just about anyone can learn a few notes, a few chords, and maybe even play a few songs. But, writing a big pop hit? That's for a select few supremely talented individuals, right? Not according to Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, who says writing a hit single is as simple as writing a bumper sticker...

Tenacious D are on the road, touring in support of their new album, 'The Rize of the Fenix', their first since 2006's 'The Pick of Destiny". You can catch Jack Black and Kyle Gass at the Palladium Ballroom in Dallas on July 20th. There are a lot of a new rock albums coming out in May...new Godsmack, new Manson, new Slash but I think the album I'm most excited for is the new Tenacious D "Rize of the Fenix"! Why? Because Tenacious D f**king rock! That and because I have the feeling we won't be getting a TOOL album in May like they promised...

The D have been rolling through the competition the past couple of nights, but tonight they have their hands full with their challenger The Pretty Reckless (I wouldn't mind a handful of Taylor Momsen, but that's a subject for a different time).
