UPDATE: 196 Cases of Coronavirus in Louisiana – 4 Dead

The State Office of Public Health has released new numbers in the fight against the Coronavirus and 196 people in Louisiana have now tested positive. Four people have died as a result of the virus. numbers now show 4 cases in Caddo and 1 in Bossier Parish. The report shows 531 people have been tested by the state lab.

136 of the cases are in Orleans Parish. Jefferson Parish saw a significant jump in cases, from 11 Monday to 31 Tuesday. New cases were also reported in Washington Parish and Terrebonne Parish.

To prevent the spread of infection, the Louisiana Department of Health is heavily engaged in priority public health actions. These actions include, but are not limited to:

1. working with healthcare facilities with presumptive patients to identify exposed healthcare workers and make appropriate recommendations;
2. ensuring all recommended infection control precautions are implemented in the healthcare facilities until we determine that the patient is no longer infectious,
3. notifying and monitoring close contacts;
4. coordinating with CDC
