5 People Shot in French Quarter on Sunday Caught on Video
WVUE TV in New Orleans reported 5 people were shot over the weekend in the French Quarter. The shootings hampered celebrations during the Bayou State Classic football game weekend in New Orleans over the weekend.
Gunshots rang out just before 2AM on Bourbon Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans injuring 5 people. 3 males and two females sustained non-life threatening injuries according to New Orleans Police spokesman Gary Sheets.
Sunday's shooting was the second shooting in New Orleans in a 5 hour span. New Orleans police are also investigating the shooting of an 18 year old male that happened just before 9P Saturday night. That victim was shot several times on Canal Street, near the intersection of Canal and St. Charles Avenue.
New Orleans police officials said the man was hospitalized, but gave no further details on his condition, or whether they believed the two shootings were related.
Portions of the Bourbon Street shooting and instigation was caught on video, on what appears to be surveillance video. The video shows a group of people on the sidewalk when another man wearing a beanie cap and appears to get into an argument with someone in the group. The video shows another man seemingly trying to step between the two men just before shots rang out. Two suspects are in custody, and New Orleans police recovered weapons from both suspects.
