Aerial Footage Of Tornado Damage Along Youree Drive In Shreveport
Severe weather struck the Shreveport area on Thursday night. Even with advance warnings of the potential for strong storms and tornados, one particular storm launched a surprise on a Shreveport neighborhood.
Hours before the severe weather was anticipated, a couple of very strong storm cells moved into the Shreveport and Bossier area. One of those storms was able to gather enough strength to put down a rotating funnel...a tornado. It happened on Youree Drive just before 6pm.
Most of the damage appeared to be to businesses in the area, including a gas station. But some homes also suffered damage from the storm. Especially damage to roofs, fences, windows, and siding.
Now this morning we can see more of the damage. Aerial drone footage shows a more full view of the damage along Youree Drive. The storm appears to have been very strong, but in a very narrow path. Here's the video:
As residents were waking up on Friday morning, SWEPCO was reporting just under 10,000 customers without power. But that isn't all from this specific storm cell that damaged Youree Drive. There were multiple lines of storms that came through the Shreveport and Bossier City area in the overnight hours.
The National Weather Service will have crews out in the neighborhoods today to examine the damage to try to determine how many tornadoes touched down. But the winds during the height of the storm were also close to 70 MPH and that is likely the cause of so much damage to trees.
