According to CNN, Amazon is investigating employees who have supposedly sold company data and customer emails who reviewed certain products. Apparently independent retailers on the site can use this advantage to get higher rankings for their products.

As someone who buys often from Amazon this is worrisome. I use the customer reviews very seriously whenever I make a purchase. I like to read what real people thought about certain clothes or products before I decide on a certain item. If I am wanting to buy something because of great reviews, and they turn out to be bought or faked- I feel cheated and lied to.

Independent retailers would spend between $80 to $2,000 for the information.

This isn't the first time something like this has happened with Amazon. CNN says that back in 2015 Amazon sued over 1,000 who were selling fake customer reviews. As the investigation is under way I wonder what else they find out about what employees have been selling, and if our information is safe.
