Shreveport Man Arrested in Connection with Country Tavern Fire
A growing pile of evidence including surveillance video, witnesses, and anonymous tips from Crime Stoppers have led authorities to a man they believe is behind the recent arson attempt on a beloved Shreveport dining spot - Country Tavern Barbecue.
According to a report from the Shreveport Times, 48 year-old Clay Dwight Shane was apprehended after Shreveport Fire Investigators combed through a mountain of clues left behind after the crime. Allegedly, Shane attempted to start a structural fire April 3rd at the popular eatery by using an accelerant of some kind and a lighter, as seen in the video shared on the restaurant's Facebook page and reported by us here. It is estimated that the "fire" caused less than $1000 in damage.
According to the official Shreveport Fire Department news release cited in the report, if convicted - Mr. Shane could face a fine of up to $15,000 and somewhere between 2 and 15 years at hard labor in federal prison. He was arrested and taken to the Caddo Correctional Center - charged with one count of simple arson.
