Bert McLaughlin; Latest Recipient of Caught in the Act Award

We have mentioned on Kiss Country a few times that the true test of every nominee we receive for the Caught in the Act Award comes when that person looks down at their ringing phone and answers it, in spite of the fact that they have no idea who's calling.

It happened again this morning when we called Bert McLaughlin. There he was, just getting his workday started, minding his own business, when his phone rang.

And even though he had no idea who might be on the other end, he answered it. Sure, it could have been a telemarketer or some con artist, but Bert answered it anyway.

Why? Because Bert has a servant's heart and the person calling might have needed some help. So Bert answered. And when we read him the nomination letter we had received about him from Kacie Southern, he was nearly speechless.

Just look at that letter and you'll see why Bert was such an easy choice for us this week as the latest recipient of the Kiss Country Caught in the Act Award.

Every now and then, Bristol and I get to call someone that we actually know and give them the good news that they've been selected as this week's recipient of the Kiss Country Caught in the Act Award.

Bert is the most genuine caring human being I’ve ever met. To know Bert is to love Bert. I’ve worked with him for 3 years now & from the moment I met him he has always been so caring for everyone around him. He is big in church but he doesn’t look at anyone different from their beliefs. There have been a few times at work (Kenworth Of La) that we have had some tragedies happen. We had one of our mechanics lose a close family member & he gained the responsibility of her children & planning the funeral. Bert went out of his to get money to help ease the burden of finding the funds to prepare this funeral, but not only did he do that.. he donated it to him anonymously & said it was from the entire parts department. HE did that. He goes out of his way to do good things for people. He always does what is asked of him & even things he’s not asked to do. He never complains of anything. He always has a smile on his face & wants to make you smile! He’s just all around a good person. I would like to nominate Bert bc he deserves recognition for how great of a person he is!!

Bert McLaughlin, thank you for being so amazing! You are a big reason why this is the greatest place in America to live! And because you've been 'Caught in the Act' the gang at Silver Star Smokehouse have a $100 Gift Certificate for you and the family to come have dinner!
