Doctors reported that Brandon suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on January 18, 2013 and even though CPR and an AED were used, he did not survive.

According to the website, thebrandongoynefoundation.com, Brandon had previously had all the required athletic physicals, yet no heart condition was ever detected and had never exhibited any symptoms.

Because of this tragedy, family and friends of Brandon elected to use his passing as a call to action and they created The Brandon Goyne Foundation which offers affordable heart testing to anyone 10 years and up; this includes students and adults.  They offer mobile heart testing, including EKG.

To pay for the testing, the group holds several fundraisers, including their 2nd Annual Brandon Goyne Memorial Big Bass Benefit on Caddo Lake.

It's scheduled to take place this Saturday, March 11.  Entry fee is $50 per person and entries will be taken at Johnson's Ranch Marina on Caddo Lake in Uncertain, Texas.  You can do that between 5:00pm and 8:00pm this Friday, March 10 or between 5:00am and 6:30am on Saturday, March 11.

There will be hourly Big Bass Prizes each hour from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm and payout is as follows:

  1. $100
  2. $75
  3. $50

Additionally, the biggest bass of the tournament will win $1,031.

A FREE fish fry is included with each entry at 4:30pm during the awards presentation at Johnson's Ranch.
