Bossier Mayor Addresses Spike in Virus Cases [VIDEO]

Bossier City Mayor Lo Walker talks about the recent spike in Coronavirus cases in his municipality and what they're doing to heal deal with the increased load on the city's medical community.

At a news conference Thursday morning the Mayor addresses the recent increase in cases in his city. Walker announced that the number of Bossier City and Parish cases has risen to an overall total of 1,701, with an additional 298 positive test results coming just last week. 53 Bossier Parish citizens have died from COVID 19.  "Bossier Parish - well, every parish in Louisiana - has a problem. It appears that we'll have enough beds in hospitals, although some patients may have to be moved around. The big concern is having the medical staff to attend to them."

The Mayor also talks about plans being made by Bossier hospitals in case of ICU bed shortages and expressed confidence in the area medical facilities. "We're seeing who's got the resources, be it equipment or ventilators," Walker says. "I'm sure they're constantly in communication with each other, what their capabilities are their ability to share."

Walker also takes a moment to endorse the idea that everyone should be wearing masks. "Wearing masks is somewhat controversial and people are sincere on both sides, but the medical facts are there and it's the consensus among the experts that wearing a mask or similar face covering does prevent the spread of the virus. Common sense and decency says that we should voluntarily be doing it."
