Caddo Parish a ‘Hot Spot’ for Dogfighting
This article is very hard for me to write. My heart breaks when I hear about a bait dog or an animal that was abused. For that reason, I will always pull over when I see a dog or cat in distress or wandering the streets. My dog Olive is my best friend, I can't imagine her being in a home where she is used for breeding purposes and abused, the thought of it wrecks me.
I recently stumbled across a Facebook post that shattered my heart. A picture of a deceased dog's neck with a collar and a chain around it. Simply put a dog that was used as a bait dog in a dogfighting ring. I had always heard that Northwest Louisiana was bad when it comes to dogfighting, up until now it was just my suspicions and rumors, now Constable Eric Hatfield has unfortunately confirmed that fear.
It all started when a dead pit bull was found inside a plastic bag in front of an elementary school in Caddo Parish. A picture was posted to raise awareness of the animal abuse going on in Caddo Parish. Constable Eric Hatfield is encouraging all members of our community to call animal control to call the police department if you suspect or see animal abuse of any form.
WARNING: The following contains an image that may be disturbing to some.
"It should go without saying that “animal cruelty” IS a crime in Louisiana. Unfortunately, Caddo Parish is a “hot spot” for dog fighting, abuse, “bait” dogs, etc. The attached graphic image was taken last night when a “pit” was found in a plastic bag in front of an elementary school. The purpose of this post is to raise awareness of this issue as well as to encourage all to notify animal control and/or law enforcement with any information regarding these crimes. Remember.. pets have hearts, brains, a memory, and they feel pain and sadness much like us."
