Shreveport Police Chief Ben Raymond talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about this year's Mardi Gras parades - his thoughts on the last weekend's Centaur and this weekend's Gemini - and the SPD's performance handling crowds in excess of a quarter of a million.

Raymond tells KEEL listeners that he is aware of some criticism of the police in the handling (or lack of) unruly parade goers, but says, "From my position, things went well. We made a minimum number of arrests and didn't have any major incidents."

Responding to criticism that the SPD overlooked a number of violations, the Chief says, "Everybody has their opinion of what the police should and should not do, but understand that in a lot of cases ordinances or statutes are not put into place so we can arrest people...they're put into place so people understand what it takes to have a good time, to be safe about it and respect others rights and privileges."
