Christopher McDonald Reportedly Joins The MCU For Secret Invasion

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow as the Disney+ streaming service builds more and more shows. That means more MCU roles for actors and actresses we love, and more screen appearances for comic heroes we want to see.

According to a ton of Hollywood reports, the MCU has now added Christopher McDonald to their ranks for the upcoming Disney+ show Secret Invasion.

This is a big deal for a couple reasons. First, lets look at what Secret Invasion is...

Marvel is going to turn one of their most ambitious comic book crossover events, and bring it to Disney+. The cast is already overflowing with talent, led by Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), it will also include Ben Mendelsohn (Talos), Olivia Coleman, Emilia Clarke, and more existing MCU stars. Based on the comic book size of Secret Invasion, this show will likely spillover into the Marvel feature films. It might even spawn its own feature film from the Disney+ show.

Why is it so big? That's the second of the two things I mentioned above. Secret Invasion is a MASSIVE undertaking.

In the pages of Marvel Comics, Secret Invasion was a gigantic crossover event that took over the storylines of dozens of titles. The events had their own running title, but the story played into The Avengers, Black Panther, Deadpool, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel, Punisher, She-Hulk, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and many more. The seeds of the event had been planted months, if not years before...and this could be a little spoilery...because its all based on shape-shifting aliens, The Skrulls, and their infiltration of Earth. So this sets up to be a huge MCU crossover event as well, that will likely involve other shows, and movies.

Now back to McDonald's casting.

According to a lot of the reports, he will be playing a "newly created" character specific to the MCU. The same reports say that his character will be big enough to require screen time in future movies and shows. Those speculating online believe this means he will play someone of importance...like the US President. Or some other government official who will influence the heroes of the MCU for a long time.

This whole thing is great news for Shreveport. Because Christopher McDonald is set to appear at this year's Geek'd Con!

Geek'd Con is Shreveport's comic con, and will take place this August at the Shreveport Convention Center. The dates for the show are August 13-15, and tickets are on-sale now. McDonald will be appearing to sign autographs and take pictures with fans.
