Gambling is one step closer in Texas. Supporters are gathering groups who want to bring casinos to the Lone Star State.

A proposed constitutional amendment could be headed to the voters this year. If it's ultimately approved, the measure would allow for 21 casinos across Texas. Dallas and Fort Worth would get one casino each.  Three would be built along the Gulf Coast.

One senator tells WFAA Television that this measure might actually have a chance because the casino operators, horse and dog owners, horse breeders and the state's federally recognized Indian tribes have come together to support the plan. Previously these groups could not come to terms with a measure they thought would work in Texas. The state would get a 20 percent tax from the casinos unless the operator invested more than $1 billion, and then the rate would be 15 percent. Texas is one of only 10 states that still ban all casino gambling.
