The drama between Ezekiel Elliott and the Cowboys continues. Earlier this week, it appeared that the Cowboys and Zeke were close to coming to terms. But, that seems to have fallen apart. In fact, according to new reports, Jerry Jones has come to grips with the fact that the team could be without Zeke for the first 6 weeks of the season.

Earlier this week Jones said the following: “We’ve got a marathon here. We want Zeke when we get to the playoffs. We want Zeke when we’re in the dog days of the season."

To me, that sounds like a man that doesn't plan on having his biggest weapon available for the start of the season. With that said, Zeke will show up eventually. With or without a new deal, Elliott has to play a minimum of 8 games to get credit for the season and not have his contract extended by a year.

Now, if he's deadset on signing long term with the Cowboys, he could sit the whole year in hopes of bullying Jerry into giving him what he wants. But that's a dangerous game, that could potentially cost him time and a lot of money depending on what the Boys running game does without him.

Time will only tell. Will Zeke get that "Todd Gurley" payday? Will Jerry hold steady and get the young star to bend to his will? Only time will tell. No matter how you look at it, it is going to be hard for the Cowboys to win games without one of the most dynamic running backs in the NFL.
