I have to admit I was a little nervous about how our state would be portrayed last night on the debut of Animal Planet's new series, "Louisiana Law." However, not even fifteen minutes into the first episode of the new series which debuted last night at 8:00 pm Central, all my fears were gone!

I also figured that most of the footage would be shot around the Gulf or in the swamps of South Louisiana, and those areas were indeed featured, but was pleasantly surprised that both Desoto Parish and Webster parish Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries agents were featured in this inaugural episode.

This first episode featured the story of Wildlife Agents Sgt. Scott Dupre and Senior Agent William Carpenter as they tracked down and investigated a crab fisherman allegedly stealing hundreds of traps belonging to other fishermen in the southern waters of St. Mary Parish.  The two were also featured as they rescued an injured eagle on the side of the road.

In Cameron Parish, Cpl. Michael Hebert seized an illegally caught flounder and donated the fish to a family in need.  Off the southern coast of St. Bernard Parish, Cpl. Blaine Wagner and Sr. Agent Austin Landry were on oyster patrol when they encountered a Captain with full boat of oysters and no proper licenses.  The situation then escalated when they suspected the captain of driving under the influence.

I especially loved the story and how the situation was handled in Webster Parish when Sr. Agent Emily Sexton and Cpl. Justin Greer encountered a young hunter who had just harvested his first deer and illegally brought it across the state line.  His father owned up to the mental lapse and was cited for the violation but Agent Sexton just couldn't stand the idea of seizing the young hunter's deer, which is the normal standard operating procedure.

After speaking with their supervisor, the two figured a way for the young man to keep his deer and savor the moment. There was an equally touching moment when Agent Triplett from Desoto Parish encountered a young hunter who's father hadn't validated the young man's deer harvest. Was pretty awesome to see the compassionate side of these agents.

I've been a fan of the series "Lonestar Law" for quite some time and the producers of "Louisiana Law" did equally as well with all aspects of the new series.

Just go HERE to watch that first episode if you missed it.
