Every once in a while, there's a sports story that comes along that transcends athletics. Alex Smith's miraculous comeback is one of those rarities. His story is nothing short of awe inspiring and incredible. On November 18th 2018, Smith suffered what was thought to be a career ending leg injury. Actually, that's not entirely true. It was almost life ending. There was talk of him having to have his leg amputated just to keep him alive. When it comes to injuries in sports, this was a bad as it gets. According to his doctor, "Our first priority is we're going to save his life. And then we're going to do our best to save his leg. And anything beyond that is a miracle."

Fast forward to last night, Smith was not just the starting Quarterback for the Washington Football team. He was a field general that led his underdog team to a come from behind victory against the best team in football, the previously undefeated Pittsburg Steelers.

And this is why Alex Smith's story transcends the football bubble or sports bubble. This isn't a football player that came back from a regular injury to play ball again. This is a human being that was on the verge of losing everything, including his life, that fought and clawed back to the top of the mountain. Who never lost hope. Who never quit fighting. Who never gave up. This isn't just a 'football player' this man is a miracle and should serve as an inspiration to all of us.

There's so many times in life that we all face dire situations. We get fired. We lose a loved one. We get divorced. The list of trials and tribulations for all of us is never ending. But much like Alex Smith, if we do the work and never give up, things will generally end up ok.

That's why I say that this Christmas everyone should get an Alex Smith jersey. You don't have to be a fan of the Washington Football team. Heck, you don't even have to be a fan of football. Because Alex is bigger than all that. He's a man that walked through hell for 2+ years and faced every challenge head on to get back something he lost. There's a lesson in that for all of us.
