THERE ARE HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD FOR THE MANDALORIAN ON DISNEY+, SO BACK AWAY IF YOU'RE NOT CAUGHT UP.

______________________________________________________________________

The latest episode of the Star Wars series The Mandalorian came with some strong action, great lines, a MAJOR unmasking, and a very familiar (but new to the show) face.

In the episode title "The Believer", Din Djarin (The Mandalorian's name) "breaks" Mig Mayfeld (played by comedian Bill Burr) out of his prison labor camp with the help of Cara Dune (Gina Carano) and Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison). Their goal is to use Mayfeld's former Imperial skills and access to get them the coordinates of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Espisito), who is now in possession of Grogu (The Child).

Things don't go as planned (obviously, or it wouldn't be interesting) when they get to the refinery where they plan to steal the location. They have to sneak into the base using the highly explosive materials being mined and refined on the planet. But there are pirates attempting to steal the shipment.

Mayfeld and Din fight off the pirates, and end up getting help from the Imperial forces. Which reinforces the points Mayfeld had been making to Din and the crew all episode, some people are just soldiers, people are just trying to do what they can to survive. Suggesting that even when he was an Imperial Sharpshooter, he was only trying to make a living.

The save from some Imperial forces really helped drive that home. Then when the pair arrive inside the base with the shipment, they're greeted the same way Rebels would greet a group of successful X-Wing pilots back from a mission. It created an interesting contradiction, similar to the classic argument scene from Kevin Smith's "Clerks" about independent contractors building the Death Star.

But after that, we get two (maybe three) major things.

First, Din exposes his face. This is NOT the way. He takes off his Storm Trooper helmet for a face scan in a room full of people. A major turning point in the show.

But right after, we get a new character, played by a recent Geek'd Con guest. (Geek'd Con is Shreveport's comic con). Valin Hess, and officer in the Galactic Empire, in introduced. He's played by Richard Brake, who was a guest at Geek'd Con in 2019.

The third big revelation comes when Valin Hess is talking to Mayfeld and Din, and Mayfeld brings up Operation: Cinder...which had video game fans jumping. By bringing Operation: Cinder into the show, they have now established the Star Wars video games in canon.

Eventually, Mayfeld gets revenge on Hess, and he's able to escape with Din.

It all sets up the finale of this season of The Mandalorian, and it's looking like it's going to be really good.
