In Louisiana, motorists are still facing pretty high prices at the gas pump. And that also impacts the prices we pay at the grocery store. Experts have a few tips that might help cut your food costs.

Gasoline prices have been up since the U.S. involvement in Iran and the slowdown of oil supply from that region. The average price of a gallon of regular unleaded as we close out the summer is just above the $4.00 mark. And we are still not getting much relief at the grocery story. Many families are having to make tough choices while shopping for food.

I saw a woman at a Shreveport grocery store the other day and one of her children ran up to her with a bag of chips, saying "Mom, can we get this?" Mom quickly said no to her child and said "we aren't going to be able to buy any snacks." I can only imagine this is something many families are dealing with as they try to stretch a dollar at the grocery store.

Inflation in August of 2026 is about 3.4%. That is a bit better from the past few years when we saw record high inflation rates.
