Today would have been Punk Rock Pioneer Joey Ramone's 63rd Birthday. Joey passed away from lymphoma in April of 2001. But even though Joey is dead and gone, his legacy will live on forever. Rock in peace, dude.

The Ramones, even though they had very little commercial success, was one of the bands that injected punk into the mainstream. Their Beatles inspired pop-punk completely changed the face of what punk, rock, and music could be.

In the past few years the Ramones have been recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all times by getting recognized in Rolling Stone lists of the 50 Greatest Artists of All Time and 25 Greatest Live Albums of All Time, VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock, and Mojo's 100 Greatest Albums - just to name a few.

Joey's voice, stature, and straight up weirdness made him a cultural icon. People of all ages still to this day, rock the Ramones signature look of high top Chucks, tight jeans, and black leather jackets.

So in honor of Joey Ramone's birthday...enjoy today. Let your silly, goofy, freak flag fly. And you know, it is impossible to be in a bad mood when you're jamming their self titled debut at full blast. And on that note, I'm gonna go sniff some glue.
