Louisiana's Popeyes Chicken is now available in 46 states and 30 countries around the world. But very soon, it'll be 31 nations across the globe.

The Popeyes brand (Silla Co., Ltd.) has announced they have entered into an exclusive, multi-year development and franchising plan to open hundreds of Popeyes restaurants in South Korea.

In making the announcement, Popeyes President David Shear said, "We are thrilled. We are pleased to announce exciting plans to bring our iconic Louisiana-style chicken to one of the largest chicken quick-service restaurant markets in the world. Our entry illustrates our commitment to serving more guests around the world and the execution of our growth plans for the Asia Pacific region".

At the same time, Moon Kyung Lee of the Silla Group in South Korea said, "Chicken is one of the largest and fastest-growing categories in the South Korean quick-service restaurant segment. We are proud to bring the famous Popeyes brand to South Korea. It will also contribute significantly to the economy by creating hundreds of new jobs over the coming years. We couldn't be more excited."

The coming Popeyes restaurants in South Korea will differ from those in the USA, as Lee emphasized plans for digital innovation at the new overseas locations. The South Korean Popeyes will feature digital ordering screens, mobile ordering and delivery.

Popeyes, which opened its first location in New Orleans in 1972, currently has more than 3,600 locations worldwide. Last year alone the company announced agreements to open in the United Kingdom, Romania, France and India.
