One event I look forward to each and every year is the Highland Jazz and Blues Festival. This year's event will take place September 14th at Columbia Park in Shreveport. There's always great music, cool "folk art"...to me, it is one of the best things this city has going every year. And, from the looks of it, this year's event is going to be no different.

Over the weekend, the Festival had its big "announce party". And boy, they DID NOT disappoint. From local heroes to national stars, Highland is knocking it out the park this year!

This year's big, national headliner is Big Sam's Funky Nation — a six-piece New Orleans funk, jazz, rock and hip-hop band (if you've never heard of them, be sure to check them out!). Margie Perez will be the co-headliner. From there, the lineup gets rounded out by the best of the best as far as local talent goes: Buddy Flett, Logan and the Legendaries and Jimmy Wooten just to name a few.

After 16 years, most events start slowing down or fading out. But not the Highland Jazz & Blues Fest. Every year, it just keeps getting better and better. For more details on this year's event and to see the full lineup, visit their website.
