Thousands of area residents ventured outside during the lunch hour to take a peak at the spectacular eclipse. Local libraries were the hot spots for many viewers.

Shreve Memorial Library had about a thousand viewing glasses for this big event. At the Broadmoor branch, the phone has been ringing off the hook for weeks. People wanted to know if they could get glasses.

Branch Manager Jennifer French tells KEEL News she saved a stack of the glasses for today's viewing, but it was not nearly enough. But it didn't matter. People were very kind and shared the glasses with the 500 or so folks who poured onto the library site to view this incredible site.

The library was also showing the NASA video stream of the eclipse in one of the meeting rooms inside.
