A pursuit on I-10 that began in Acadia Parish around 6 PM yesterday ended with the arrest of a Florida man in Jeff Davis Parish a short time later. A Louisiana State Trooper observed a man in a vehicle that was stopped on the side of I-10 near Egan.  When the Trooper approached the vehicle he observed the driver inhaling compressed gas from an electronics duster can.

The Trooper engaged the driver identified as 24-year-old Kevin Dale Briscoe of Jacksonville Florida. When Briscoe did not follow the Trooper's command to roll down his window he then attempted to drive away from the officer.

The Trooper then began to pursue Briscoe westbound on Interstate 10. Again Briscoe failed to yield to the Troopers demands to pull over. At the Acadia/ Jeff Davis Parish line spike strips were deployed by another Trooper. That maneuver was successful.

Briscoe continued west on I-10 taking the Jennings exit at Highway 26. It was then that Troopers moved in front of Briscoe's damaged vehicle to prevent him from re-entering the I-10 westbound lanes of travel.

The pursuit was approximately seven miles in length and one Jennings Police Officer sustained minor injuries during the apprehension of Briscoe. Briscoe was charged with possession of synthetic cannabis as well as drug paraphernalia. He is also being charged with obstruction of highway commerce, flight from an officer and authorities say other charges are pending.

State Troopers were assisted in this arrest by members of the Acadia Parish Sheriff's office, the Jennings Police Department, and the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's office.
