In a meeting that local Senator Greg Tarver is calling a formality, Governor John Bel Edwards will talk with lawmakers from Monroe and Shreveport about contract negotiations with BRF. Many believe that Edwards will attempt to oust BRF, who operates University Health locally.

According to Tarver, BRF has continually violated their contract by not paying their bills. BRF owes LSU Health Shreveport slightly more than $14 million for services doctors provided to patients at the hospitals. About $8 million of that total has been past due since June 28. Another $5.9 million was due August 30.

However, this will not be the first attempt to end BRF's contract. In 2015, the state filed a breach of contract notice against BRF but ultimately negotiated a new deal.
