It’s Blue Monday – The Most Depressing Day of the Year
I was actually in a pretty good mood until I read that I'm supposed to be pretty depressed today. Guess I didn't get the memo in time. Just in case you weren't on the group text either, today is Blue Monday, and according to a British psychologist, for many, it's likely the most depressing day of the entire year.
In his research back in 2005, Dr.. Cliff Arnail determined that on the third Monday in January, an assortment of things collide to create the perfect storm of depression!
He even created the following formula for how he arrived at his conclusion: [W+(D-d)]xTQ/MxNA. And here's where each of the symbols applies:
W = Weather
D = Debt
T = Time since Christmas
Q = Time since failing New Year's Resolutions
M = Low motivational levels
NA= The feeling of a need to take action
So, essentially the perfect storm of elements includes the bad weather, the loss of those good feelings at Christmas and now all that remains is the debt, failed New Year's resolutions, lack of motivation and you're now facing another full year of work without having benefit of summer or vacations. It's the perfect storm for sure.
So, if you're like I was and you weren't in a bad mood, until now, you are welcome. Have an awesome day!
