Nighttime Lane Closures Set For Eleven Miles Of I-49 in Caddo Parish
While I can understand the frustration of some drivers dodging all the current roadwork in northwest Louisiana, I have personally been impressed with the commitment to improve our roads and the sheer volume of projects initiated by the DOTD over the past several months, and we've just been advised of another such project set to begin this weekend.
In a recent notice from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, we learn of a $772,806 project they are about to begin to remove and replace the roadway striping along a stretch of I-49 in north Shreveport.
LA DOTD Will Begin A Striping Project on Eleven Miles of I-49 in Caddo Parish
According to DOTD, this project will provide pavement marking improvements on I-49 from I-220 in Shreveport to the LA 173 (Dixie Blanchard Rd) interchange, for a total of 11 miles of striping repairs, and will include all travel lanes in both directions, along with the entrance and exit ramps.

Work is scheduled to begin this Sunday, August 23, with striping operations largely occurring during nighttime hours from approximately 7:00 pm to 6:00 am, to reduce inconvenience to the traveling public.
This Eleven Mile I-49 Project Won't Likely Be Completed Until Late Fall 2026
Motorists should expect slow-moving operations and some lane/shoulder closures to allow the contractor to progress safely and efficiently. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution, and pay attention to advance warning signage alerting them to an upcoming construction zone.
The overall project is anticipated to be complete in late Fall 2026, noting that striping operations are particularly weather dependent.
