Latest Update From SWEPCO For Estimated Power Restoration
As of approximately 8:30 am this morning, 34,195 SWEPCO customers are still without power after yesterday's deadly storms in Northwest Louisiana and East Texas.
The good news is that only five hours previously, around 3:30 am, that number was just over 40,000 customers, so at least there is movement in the right direction.
However, even SWEPCO reported that for those remaining customers who are without power, the wait could be for an "extended period."
In a note from Michael Corbin, SWEPCO's External Affairs Manager, we learn that SWEPCO has sustained damage to both their Transmission (Big Poles) and Distribution Systems (Small Poles) across Texas and Louisiana.
There is wide damage to the Distribution System throughout the two states due to wind and tree contact.
As expected, with over 50 confirmed tornado warnings yesterday, damage is heaver in the areas where confirmed tornados passed through.
This includes the most concentrated area of damage in Bossier Parish from Sligo Road to North of Cypress Lake and scatted areas in Caddo Parish.
Once the winds subsided, crews were out to continue assessment, order needed material and schedule crews to make repairs.
In many cases, tree crews will be the first on-site to clear the way for line crews to replace poles and hang new lines as needed.
Initial Estimated Times of Restoration (ETR) will be communicated later today. SWEPCO will stay in communication with customers via text and email to keep them apprised of the situation.
