Americans use the online search engine, Google, for nearly everything these days. We use it so often, Google, the name of the world's most popular web search engine, has become a verb, instead of the proper name for this major technology company.

To get a better grasp on those search terms and definitions, Unscrambler.com conducted research using Google Trends from the period January 1, 2026 to July 7, 2026, to discover the most searched word definitions and each word's specific number of searches. This way they could determine the most searched word definitions nationally and for each specific state.
When all the dust from the research settled, their findings left researchers scratching their heads. A spokesperson for Word Unscrambler said, "One of the most striking findings is that Americans top searched definitions in 2026 are dominated by abstract concepts rather than objects. From love and justice to democracy and integrity, people are searching for words that help them understand ideas, values and human behavior. People are searching for definitions to better understand personal experiences and public conversations."

- Love - 274 900 searches
- Fascism - 264 700 searches
- Empathy - 265 600 searches
- Integrity - 262 100 searches
- Metaphor - 242 200 searches
- Narcissist - 186 500 searches
- Culture - 186 300 searches
- Democracy - 183 100 searches
- Bias - 174 200 searches
Louisiana's Most Searched Word Should Make You Proud
In state by state comparisons, Texas' most searched word was "Republic". In Arkansas, Google was asked most often for the definition of "Economics".
Compare these to Alaska's most common search for "Fascism" and New York's "Equity" and Ohio's search for "Fiction" and you'll see what's so redeeming about the most common search in Louisiana.
And that word, was "Love".
