Two Aging Bridges on LA 2 Alt Near Shongaloo Set for Total Replacement
For the next year, drivers in northeast Webster Parish who frequent LA 2 Alt near Shongaloo, might want to search out other options.
An alert from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has just announced that a $4.2 million project to remove and replace two bridges along LA 2 Alt near Shongaloo will begin very soon.
According to DOTD, these bridges on LA 2 Alt, indicated in the illustration below, are located over Thorny Branch and Indian Creek, between LA 159 and the Claiborne Parish line.
The Two Webster Bridges Scheduled For Replacement Were Originally Built in 1968
Both bridges are nearing sixty years of age as they were originally constructed in 1968. Of the two, DOTD states that work is set to begin, Monday, September 14, on the Indian Creek bridge, which many will recall was previously closed due to the structure's condition on Monday, September 14. The work on this bridge alone, weather permitting, will take approximately four to five months to complete.

The overall project includes removal of the old timber structures (both of which were originally built in 1968), replacement with new concrete slab span bridges, drainage work, milling asphalt, class II base course, new asphalt paving on the roadway approaches, pavement striping, and related work.
There is a period of utility relocation allotted for the Thorny Branch bridge, with up to 120 days allowed for the applicable utility companies to move their utilities out of the project area. Additional updates will be issued as the project progresses.
The Replacement Of Both Bridges Won't Likely Be Completed Until Late 2027
The entire project, which includes replacement of both bridges, is anticipated to be complete in late 2027, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.
